概要 | This paper outlines briefly the history of religious proliferation in the United States and how new religions were founded to fill a spiritual void felt by people before and during the Second Great Awakening. Adherents to the Spiritualist movement (and eventual religion) supported dozens of such camps around the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This paper examines in detail the history and functioning of Camp Chesterfield, showing how it was founded and grew into a thriving gathering place for Hoosier Spiritualists. |
